Safran Ranked First in France for Patent Holdings

National Industrial Property Institute ranks Safran as top patent holder, spotlighting its significant contributions to sustainable aviation and global aerospace technology.

Paris, France- This Thursday, Safran has achieved a notable distinction by topping the National Industrial Property Institute’s (INPI) list of patent holders in France for the first time, boasting a portfolio of 16,457 active patents.

With a history of consistent ranking in the top three for patent applications since 2011, Safran secured the first position in the latest two INPI rankings. In 2024, the company filed 1,232 patent applications, illustrating the strength and effectiveness of its processes for protecting intellectual property.

Environmental efficiency drives 75% of Safran’s self-funded research and technology expenditures, with many patented innovations aimed at enhancing sustainable practices in aviation. From 2021 to 2025, the company is investing approximately €4.2 billion in disruptive technologies essential for achieving more sustainable aviation solutions.

Additionally, Safran holds the distinction of being the foremost French patent registrant with the European Patent Office (EPO) and maintains a significant presence in the United States patent landscape, as recognized by the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).
