September 04 2024 08:04:09 UTC– Deutsche Post is releasing a new stamp featuring legendary musician Freddie Mercury as part of its “Legends of Pop/Rock Music” series. This stamp, designed by Jan-Niklas Kroeger, captures Mercury in one of his iconic stage poses with a microphone stand. The release follows last year’s Jimi Hendrix edition and is developed in partnership with Bravado, Universal Music Group’s brand management division.

The Mercury stamp, with a postage value of €0.85, will be available from 5 September at selected postal retail outlets, Deutsche Post’s philately shops, and online. A special limited edition, featuring a gold version of the stamp in a high-quality presentation case, will also be available. This stamp, officially issued by the German Ministry of Finance, can be used for standard letters within Germany.

Freddie Mercury’s distinctive voice, charismatic stage presence, and remarkable compositions cemented his status as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music. Among the milestones in his performing career was Queen’s spectacular 20-minute set for Live Aid at London’s Wembley Stadium in 1985, widely regarded as the highlight of the benefit concert and the best live music performance of all time. Born Farrokh Bulsara on 5 September 1946 on the African island of Zanzibar, Mercury passed away on 24 November 1991 at the age of forty-five, with his ashes scattered at an undisclosed location.
