- German Armed Forces cancel 30,000 intercom sets with hearing protection from Rheinmetall
September 04 2024 07:00:57 UTC– The German Armed Forces have placed a second order with Rheinmetall for an additional 30,000 intercom sets featuring advanced hearing protection technology.
This follow-up order includes 8,000 command sets and 22,000 soldier sets, with deliveries set to commence in mid-2025 and conclude by year-end. The order, valued at approximately €55 million, follows an initial batch ordered in April 2024.
This procurement is part of a broader framework agreement with Rheinmetall, which could see up to 191,000 units delivered over seven years, potentially totaling €400 million.
The SMG (Sprechsatz mit Gehörschutzfunktion) project, essential for enhancing tactical communications across the Bundeswehr, includes state-of-the-art hearing protection that reduces harmful noises while amplifying quieter sounds. It integrates seamlessly with various radio devices and is compatible with multiple helmet types, including the new combat helmet supplied by Rheinmetall.
The intercom sets with hearing protection function, such as the SMG ordered by the German Bundeswehr from Rheinmetall, are critical for enhancing communication and safety in combat. These systems allow soldiers to maintain clear and secure communication across various channels, ensuring coordination and rapid information exchange in high-pressure situations. Integrated with active hearing protection, the SMG reduces harmful noises like gunfire while amplifying quieter sounds, preserving soldiers’ hearing without isolating them from important environmental cues.
Designed for durability, the SMG systems are compatible with various combat helmets and feature push-to-talk functionality, enabling effective command and control. By allowing soldiers to communicate seamlessly and protecting their hearing in the chaotic environment of battle, these intercom sets play a crucial role in improving the overall effectiveness and safety of military operations.
This expansion reinforces Rheinmetall’s position as a leading supplier of military equipment, particularly in the realm of tactical communications and soldier systems, both domestically and internationally.
