Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany – In a groundbreaking move to enhance sustainable transportation in one of Europe’s coldest regions, DB SCHENKER has successfully incorporated two FUSO eCanter electric trucks into its Finnish logistics network, Daimler Trucks said Thursday.

These 7.5-tonne battery-electric trucks are now making strides in daily operations, particularly in the challenging environment of northern Finland.

Kuusamo, nestled in the far north-east of Finland, experiences some of the harshest winter conditions in Europe. Here, the snow depth can reach several meters from October to April, with temperatures plunging to as low as -30 degrees Celsius. Despite these extreme conditions, the FUSO eCanters have been efficiently handling last-mile deliveries from the DB SCHENKER hub in Kuusamo since the beginning of the year, proving their resilience and reliability.

The decision to deploy the first two vehicles of the current eCanter model in Kuusamo and Oulu, approximately 200 km southwest, aligns with DB SCHENKER’s commitment to sustainable and innovative logistics solutions. The deployment in Kuusamo marks the FUSO eCanter as one of the most northern electric trucks in customer operation under Daimler Truck.

This initiative by DB SCHENKER not only demonstrates the feasibility of electric vehicles in extreme weather conditions but also marks a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint in the logistics sector. The successful operation of the FUSO eCanters in such demanding climates paves the way for wider adoption of electric vehicles in the logistics industry, even in regions with challenging environmental conditions.
