• UPDATE: Philippine Airlines Receives First Airbus A350-1000 to Expand North American Routes
TOULOUSE, France – Philippine Airlines took delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on December 22, 2025, becoming the tenth airline worldwide to operate the model and setting the stage for an expansion of its transpacific network.
What is new?
Philippine Airlines has officially received its first Airbus A350-1000 at a handover in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the first of nine A350-1000s the airline is set to receive as part of a fleet expansion program. The delivery marks a new phase in the national carrier’s long-haul operations across the Pacific.
Fleet Expansion and Strategy
The new A350-1000 will join the airline’s existing fleet of A350-900s to augment its widebody capacity for long-haul routes. The aircraft will be used to expand the carrier’s transpacific network, enabling non-stop services to major destinations in North America. The addition is part of a broader strategy to grow long-haul capacity while improving the passenger experience and operational reliability.
Aircraft Details
The A350-1000 delivered to Philippine Airlines is configured in a premium three-class layout with 382 seats. According to Airbus, the A350 design incorporates advanced technologies and aerodynamics, including new generation engines and the use of lightweight materials. These features contribute to a 25 percent reduction in fuel burn, operating costs, and carbon dioxide emissions compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. The plane is also equipped with the Airspace cabin, which features wide seats and high ceilings.
Sustainability and Market Context
The A350 aircraft is currently capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus has a target to make its aircraft compatible with 100% SAF by 2030. As of the end of November 2025, the A350 Family had accumulated nearly 1,500 orders from 66 customers globally.
