July 01 2024 09:10:24 — TotalEnergies acquires Tecoil, a Finnish company specializing in re-refined base oils, enhancing circular economy for lubricants in Europe.
Tecoil operates a production facility in Hamina, eastern Finland, with a capacity of 50,000 tons of Re-Refined Base Oils (RRBOs) per year. The company has established a circular economy network in Europe to collect used lubricants and supply its plant.
Using a process called “re-refining,” optimized by Tecoil, used oils are treated to achieve properties similar to the best virgin base oils.
These high-quality base oils are then used to produce lubricants that fulfill the growing customer demand for sustainability and circularity. This process significantly reduces the carbon footprint of lubricants while maintaining performance levels approved by many car manufacturers.
The acquisition enables TotalEnergies to utilize Tecoil’s expertise in producing high-quality re-refined base oils for sustainable lubricants, meeting customer demands for eco-friendly products. This strategic move reinforces TotalEnergies’ position as a major player in lubricant production and distribution.
