DÜSSELDORF, Germany — Rheinmetall secured an initial order to build and operate a modular camp for the German Armed Forces in Lithuania.
The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services (BAIUDBw) awarded the contract under the German Armed Forces Contractor Augmentation Program II – Static Accommodation (G-CAP II SU), Rheinmetall said in an emailed press release today.
Contract Details
The order value for the camp’s construction totals €250 million. Subsequent operation of the facility is valued at €40 million annually. Rheinmetall booked the order in the third quarter of 2026.
The modular camp will accommodate up to 2,000 soldiers. It is scheduled to become operational from mid-August 2027. Rheinmetall will also be responsible for facility management, including laundry and catering services, following commissioning.
Program Purpose
The G-CAP II SU program provides static accommodation for soldiers during deployment and standby commitments. This supports international crisis management and national and collective defense efforts. The program aims to conserve Bundeswehr resources by utilizing private-sector service providers for infrastructure needs.
Rheinmetall will serve as the main contractor. Its responsibilities include planning, manufacturing, delivery, construction, multi-year autonomous operation, and eventual dismantling of the camp. The company handles these services globally, adapting to various transport and environmental conditions.
