- Hybrid Facility to Unite Civil and Defence Sectors
Duesseldorf, Germany — Rheinmetall, the German defense group, Friday said it expanded its presence in Hungary with the establishment of a new plant in Szeged. The groundbreaking ceremony on March 26, 2024, witnessed an assembly of distinguished guests including Hungarian Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Szeged Mayor Dr. László Botka, and other notable figures.
The facility, slated to begin operations in August 2025, represents Rheinmetall’s inaugural venture into a hybrid site combining its civil business and defence technology. This €63 million investment will create up to 300 highly skilled jobs and will occupy a sprawling 85,000 square meter area with a 15,000 square meter production floor.
This site primarily focuses on the Automotive business unit, producing advanced electrical components such as nanostructure capacitors and hydrogen-based products for mobility and energy generation. Around ten percent of the production area is allocated for the military business of Rheinmetall’s Electronic Solutions division.
The establishment of this hybrid facility by Rheinmetall in Szeged not only enhances the company’s global footprint but also strengthens the economic and technological ties between Hungary and Germany. It’s a strategic move in response to the growing demand in both civil and defense sectors, showcasing Rheinmetall’s commitment to innovation and excellence in a broad range of industries.
