BASEL, Switzerland — Lonza announced the appointment of Samanta Cimitan as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).
Lonza, a Swiss healthcare manufacturer, said in an emailed press release today that Cimitan will also serve as Senior Vice President and Member of the Extended Executive Committee. She is scheduled to join the company by January 1, 2027.
New Role Details
The newly created CCO role will involve leading Strategic Enterprise Account Management, Global Marketing, and Commercial Excellence. Cimitan will hold direct commercial responsibility for Lonza’s strategic accounts. The position is designed to shape a unified go-to-market approach as part of the “One Lonza” strategy, making it easier for customers to engage with Lonza’s global offerings.
Wolfgang Wienand, Lonza’s Chief Executive Officer, said Cimitan’s appointment is an important step in building “One Lonza” and leveraging the company’s capabilities for pharmaceutical partners. He added that the goal is for every customer to benefit from Lonza’s science, technology, and manufacturing to translate innovations into therapies.
Cimitan’s Background
Cimitan brings extensive business leadership experience from the contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) industry. She currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Celonic Group, where she led its evolution into a focused biologics CDMO. Before her role at Celonic, Cimitan spent nearly 13 years at Lonza in commercial and strategy leadership positions, including as Vice President of Lonza Group Operations Strategy.
