July 01 2024 12:01:35 — Bundeswehr orders 6,500 military trucks from Rheinmetall, worth up to €3.5bn.
In a landmark deal, Rheinmetall has secured the largest order in its history from the Bundeswehr for logistic vehicles. The framework contract, which was signed in Koblenz, includes the delivery of up to 6,500 military trucks, with the total order valued at up to €3.5 billion including VAT.
The agreement follows the approval of funding by the budget committee of the Federal German Parliament on June 26, 2024. The contract was formally signed on July 1, 2024, by Annette Lehnigk-Emden, President of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), and the management of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV).
The initial call-off under this framework contract is for over 610 vehicles, valued at €312 million including VAT, with 250 of these trucks expected to be delivered within 2024. This initial delivery will primarily be financed through the Bundeswehr’s special funds.
The framework contract is designed to provide the Bundeswehr with flexibility in ordering additional quantities of the already introduced unprotected transportation vehicles, specifically the UTF 5t and UTF 15t trucks, over the next seven years.
Additionally, a new vehicle category, the 4×4 UTF 3.5t, will be introduced under this agreement, featuring a maximum of identical parts to the existing UTF family.
Rheinmetall AG is set to book the order in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, marking a significant boost in its order backlog and affirming its strong relationship with the German armed forces.
