GETAFE, Spain тАУ The Spanish Ministry of Defence has ordered 18 C295 transport aircraft from Airbus, the company announced on December 23, 2025.

The new planes will replace the Spanish Air and Space Force’s older CN235 and C212 fleets.

What is new?

The acquisition aims to harmonize Spain’s military transport fleets and improve logistical commonality with C295 aircraft already in service.

According to the announcement, the order reinforces Spain’s strategic autonomy and supports its domestic aeronautical industry. With the completion of this contract, the Spanish Air and Space Force will operate a total of 46 C295s in transport, maritime patrol, and surveillance configurations.

Fleet Replacement Schedule

The delivery of the 18 aircraft is divided into two batches.

The first group will be delivered between 2026 and 2028 to the Military Air Transport School at Matac├бn Air Base in Salamanca, replacing the current CN235 aircraft. A second group of C295s is scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2032 to the Military Parachuting School at Alcantarilla Air Base in Murcia, where they will take over duties from the C212 fleet.

Integrated Training and Support

The agreement includes an advanced ground training system with flight simulators and computer-aided teaching systems for both the Salamanca and Murcia bases. Additionally, the contract provides for comprehensive support of the C295 fleet at the Military Transport School, which covers aircraft maintenance and materials management through December 2032.
