Wiesbaden, Germany — In 2023, 249,800 young people in Germany started educational programs bridging school and vocational training, with a 4% increase from the previous year, data from the Federal Statistics Office showed Thursday.
The rise is attributed to Ukrainian youths fleeing the Russian invasion, joining programs to learn German. The total foreign participants increased by 9% to 94,400, but specific nationalities cannot be distinguished, the office added.
