Luxembourg – In a significant executive shift, ArcelorMittal, the global leader in steel and mining, Tuesday announced the appointment of Kleber Silva as the new Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Mining.

Set to assume his new role on April 8, 2024, Silva will also serve as the Executive Vice President of ArcelorMittal, joining the esteemed ranks of the Group Management Committee.

The transition comes as Stefan Buys, the mining division’s chief since October 2021, departs on March 30, 2024, to explore new ventures. Buys is credited with advancing the mining operations in Liberia and Canada and propelling pivotal projects. ArcelorMittal extends its gratitude to Stefan Buys for his impactful contributions.

Kleber Silva, a seasoned professional with a remarkable 35-year tenure in the mining and metals sector, rejoins ArcelorMittal after a significant stint at Eramet. As Eramet’s deputy chief executive officer and COO, Silva oversaw diverse global operations, including mining, plant, and metallurgical activities, with a focus on manganese, nickel, zircon, titanium, and lithium. His track record boasts substantial achievements in safety, growth, operational excellence, and value creation.

Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal, under whose direct report Silva will function, emphasized the strategic importance of this appointment. Silva’s extensive experience and proven expertise in the mining and metal industries are expected to be instrumental in steering ArcelorMittal Mining towards new heights of success and innovation.
