London, UK- This Tuesday, ICG, a global alternative asset manager, and Teras Capital, an investment platform, have announced the launch of a new data centre platform for Southern Europe called Templus. Templus is set to become the first regional data centre platform in the region, focusing on sustainability, customer proximity, and high-security standards.
Templus aims to establish itself as the leading colocation platform in Southern Europe, planning to operate over 20 data centres. Initially, the platform will start with five operational data centres located in Madrid, Malaga, and Seville, with a total installed capacity of 15MW.
Nacho Velilla, the former global vice president and Managing Director for Spain at Equinix, will lead Templus. Velilla brings extensive experience from his previous role as the president and cofounder of Spain DC, the Spanish National Data Centre Association. Under his leadership, a team of seasoned professionals will drive the platform’s growth and operations.
Templus differentiates itself through three core principles: proximity, security, and sustainability. By placing data centres close to where data is generated and used, Templus aims to reduce latency. High security standards will ensure the development of secure applications and services, reducing data vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the platform is committed to environmental sustainability, using 100% renewable energy and adhering to ambitious ESG criteria aligned with the 2030 Agenda. Templus focuses on reducing its Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) to minimize environmental impact.
ICG, with a 35-year history and $86.3bn of assets under management, provides capital solutions to help companies grow across four asset classes: Structured and Private Equity, Private Debt, Real Assets, and Credit.
This launch marks a significant step forward in the development of regional digital infrastructure in Southern Europe, promising improved data services and a strong commitment to sustainability.
