Frankfurt, Germany – DHL Global Forwarding, the international provider of freight services, in collaboration with Fraport AG, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, officially broke ground Tuesday: the construction of a state-of-the-art air freight center at Frankfurt Airport’s CargoCity South is now underway.
The new center is expected to open in mid-2025.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks New Development Phase
Tobias Schmidt, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Europe, and Anke Giesen, Executive Director Retail and Real Estate at Fraport AG, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, signaling the start of this ambitious project. The new facility, located near Airport Gate 31, will span approximately 55,000 square meters and is expected to be operational by mid-2025.
Strategic Expansion to Enhance Air Freight Capabilities
This development is a strategic move by DHL Global Forwarding to expand its air freight capabilities for both German and international customers. The facility is designed to handle air cargo efficiently and will also accommodate charter flights operated by StarBroker, DHL’s in-house service provider.
New European Headquarters for StarBroker
In addition to serving as an air cargo center, the new complex will house the European headquarters of StarBroker, further solidifying DHL’s commitment to expanding its footprint and services in the region.

The new cargo center and office complex is not just an expansion but also a complementary addition to the existing airport location. It will offer additional transshipment space and state-of-the-art facilities, enhancing DHL’s operational efficiency and service quality.
