June 30 2024 18:30:37 — DEME to announce a landmark Cooperation Agreement with the Egyptian Government to establish an industrial-scale green hydrogen production facility in Egypt’s western desert. The initiative leverages the knowledge and expertise gained from the development of Oman’s pioneering HYPORT Duqm green hydrogen project.

Location and Infrastructure Details

The new HYPORT green hydrogen production plant will be strategically located within the industrial zone of the Port of Gargoub, Egypt’s newest commercial port and industrial zone on the Mediterranean coast. The renewable power generation infrastructure, consisting of wind and solar energy sources, will be situated 70 km southwest of Gargoub. A dedicated high-voltage power line will connect this renewable energy infrastructure to the production facility, ensuring efficient and reliable power supply.

Project Phases and Production Goals

HYPORT Gargoub is planned as a three-phase project. The first phase aims to achieve an annual production of approximately 320,000 tonnes of green ammonia, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy production and reducing carbon emissions.

Conclusion

This cooperation between DEME and the Egyptian Government represents a significant advancement in the global green hydrogen sector. By combining DEME’s expertise with Egypt’s strategic location and resources, the HYPORT Gargoub project is poised to become a key player in the green hydrogen industry, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
