Strategic collaboration set to enhance e-bus battery technology, promising extended range and durability for future electric buses.
Stuttgart, Germany- In a significant development for zero-emission public transport, Daimler Buses has announced this Tuesday a strategic partnership with BMZ Poland, part of the BMZ Holding group. This collaboration is aimed at developing and supplying the next generation of e-bus batteries to propel the future of environmentally friendly transportation across Europe.
Key elements:
- The partnership will focus on evolving the existing battery technologies to specifically meet the needs of electric buses.
- The forthcoming NMC4 battery technology, set to succeed the current NMC3, is designed to offer high energy density and an ultra-long cycle life, enhancing the range and durability of e-buses.
- Daimler Buses plans to incorporate these advanced NMC4 batteries into their electric buses starting mid-decade.
Michael Klein, Chief Operating Officer at Daimler Buses, emphasized the synergy between the two companies, combining Daimler’s expertise in bus manufacturing with BMZ’s specialization in robust lithium-ion battery solutions. Klein expressed enthusiasm about setting a new standard in battery technology for electric buses, marking a critical step towards achieving zero-emission public transport in Europe.
Tomasz Jankowski, General Manager of BMZ Poland, highlighted the strategic alignment with Daimler Buses as a recognition of BMZ’s decade-long focus on e-bus systems. Paweł Kępski, Head of Business Unit EV at BMZ Poland, added that the partnership would lead to the expansion of their Gliwice facility, making it a pioneering EU production site for bus batteries with fully automated assembly lines.
This partnership not only signifies a leap towards sustainable transportation solutions but also reinforces the commitment of both Daimler Buses and BMZ Group to the global transition towards a greener future.
