Antwerp, Belgium – Ackermans & van Haaren, a renowned diversified investment group, Tuesday reported mixed results for the year 2023, navigating through a challenging market environment. Raymund Trost, CEO of CFE, a key subsidiary of the group, remarked on the company’s performance, emphasizing its resilient business model and strategic investments aimed at future growth.

Despite facing a decline in operational results compared to the previous year, the company managed to maintain a healthy financial position. Trost underscored that the company’s low gearing is a testament to its financial strength, even after significant investments, including the ambitious Kronos project.

Our multidisciplinary model has demonstrated its ability to withstand market fluctuations. This approach not only enables us to offer integrated solutions for the net-zero transition but also shows our commitment to combining our diverse activities effectively, Trost said. He acknowledged that while some projects in 2023 posed challenges, the company is on a path to improving operational performance, with the full impact of its operational excellence and risk management strategies yet to be fully realized.

In 2023, CFE successfully completed several flagship projects across its three core markets: sustainable buildings, smart industries, and infrastructure for future energy and mobility needs. Notably, the company’s focus on sustainable building practices was highlighted through projects like the Wood Hub, its new headquarters, and the Zin in Noord building in the Benelux region. These projects are remarkable for their use of bio-based materials, circular and renovation techniques, and the integration of VMANAGER smart building technology.

The Zin in Noord building, the largest of its kind based on circular principles in the Benelux, exemplifies our ambition to lead the industry. It integrates the best we have to offer and aligns with our commitment to sustainability, Trost added.

While the company faces ongoing challenges, its strategic focus and investments in innovative solutions position it well for future growth and leadership in sustainable development.

Contextual Background: Ackermans & van Haaren is an independent investment group that focuses on long-term value creation through investments in a variety of companies with international growth potential. CFE, a subsidiary of the group, specializes in construction, including sustainable building and infrastructure development.
