LONDON, United Kingdom — BP has appointed Ian Tyler as chair, effective immediately, the company said, after he served as interim chair since May.
Tyler joined the BP board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was appointed interim chair on May 26, 2026, BP said in an emailed press release today.
Search and Other Roles
BP said the appointment followed a search that included internal and external candidates. Dame Amanda Blanc, BP’s senior independent director, said the board unanimously appointed Tyler.
BP said Tyler has previously chaired Cairn Energy and served as a non-executive director of BAE Systems. It said he is currently chair of Grafton Group plc and senior independent director of Anglo American plc. The emailed release did not say whether those outside roles will change.
Board and CEO
Tyler said it had been a privilege to work with Meg O’Neill, BP’s chief executive, since her arrival. He said he would lead the board’s evolution and was committed to regular engagement with shareholders.
BP p.l.c. is listed in London and New York.
