LONDON, UK — Marks & Spencer Group Plc today launched a new own-brand pet food range, Paws & Pals, entering the pet food market.
Marks & Spencer Group Plc said in an emailed press release today that the launch is part of its strategy to become a “true shopping list retailer,” expanding its offerings beyond traditional grocery categories.
New Product Details
The Paws & Pals range features 13 new lines. These include kibble, treats, and toppers designed for both cats and dogs. The products are available in M&S Foodhalls starting today.
Ingredient Focus
Marks & Spencer Food research indicates that 60% of its customers are scrutinizing pet food ingredients more closely. The company stated the Paws & Pals range uses 100% natural ingredients and high meat content. Recipes are grain-free and include added vitamins and minerals to support pet wellbeing. Chefs developed the recipes in-house.
Market Strategy
The retailer aims to double its market share in the pet category. This move is intended to help customers purchase more of their weekly essentials at Marks & Spencer. Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said pet food is a natural extension of the Food business. He added that pets are an important part of family life for millions of households.
