Holcim acquires Alkern to expand in high-value Building Solutions

ZUG, Switzerland – Holcim announced on Tuesday it has closed the acquisition of Alkern, a leading French manufacturer of precast concrete elements, to expand its high-value Building Solutions portfolio.

What is new?

Holcim has completed its acquisition of Alkern, a company specializing in precast concrete with estimated 2025 net sales of approximately EUR 250 million. Founded in 1972, Alkern operates more than 50 production sites across France and Belgium with 1,000 employees.

The company’s product line includes building solutions for infrastructure, industry, and buildings, offering walling, flooring, and water management systems.

Strategic Rationale

The acquisition is a component of Holcim’s “NextGen Growth 2030” strategy, which aims for its Building Solutions segment to represent 50% of the group’s net sales by 2030. According to the company, Alkern’s product offerings are highly complementary to Holcim’s existing portfolio.

“Alkern’s leading precast concrete offering in France, as well as its specifiable walling, flooring and water management systems, are highly complementary to Holcim’s portfolio and will expand our high-value Building Solutions,” said Dragan Maksimovic, Region Head for West Europe at Holcim. “We welcome Alkern’s 1,000 employees to Holcim and look forward to creating further value together, while advancing NextGen Growth 2030.”

Financial Impact

Holcim anticipates the acquisition will be value-accretive, generating run-rate EBITDA synergies of EUR 11 million within three years. The deal is expected to be accretive to earnings per share (EPS) and free cash flow in its first year, and accretive to return on invested capital (ROIC) in its third year.
