Mon Nov 11 09:35:32 -0000 2024 UTC– DHL Group and Lindt & Sprüngli partner to reduce carbon footprint using waste-based maritime fuel, cutting 514.86 metric tons of CO2e in 3 months.
DHL Global Forwarding is helping Lindt & Sprüngli make their chocolate supply chain a little sweeter—and greener. Since 2008, the Swiss chocolatier has relied on DHL to transport its premium chocolate treats across the globe. Now, with DHL’s GoGreen Plus service, Lindt & Sprüngli aims to achieve its ambitious net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
In the first three months of the partnership’s latest phase, Lindt & Sprüngli reduced its carbon footprint by 514.86 metric tons of CO2e. The collaboration is on track to save a total of 4,800 tons by the end of 2024, a substantial bite out of emissions. DHL’s secret ingredient? Biofuels made from waste, which cut emissions by up to 80% right at the source. Using a “book and claim” system, the savings are credited back to Lindt & Sprüngli, making each shipment a little greener.
The chocolates—carefully crafted in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy—are shipped in 40′ refrigerated containers, ensuring every bar, truffle, and praline arrives in perfect condition. From Europe to sweet-toothed fans in the U.S., Canada, and beyond, the journey remains as smooth as Lindt’s signature chocolate.
With their commitment to science-based targets, both Lindt & Sprüngli and DHL are proving that you can have your chocolate and eat it too—without a hefty carbon footprint.
