• ArcelorMittal and EDF sign 18-year contract for low-carbon electricity
PARIS, France – ArcelorMittal and EDF have signed an 18-year contract to supply low-carbon nuclear power to ArcelorMittal’s industrial sites in France.
The deal, which follows a letter of intent from January 2024, secures a long-term electricity supply for the steel producer, with first deliveries beginning January 1, 2026.

ArcelorMittal and EDF finalized a Nuclear Power Production Allocation Contract (CAPN) on December 26, 2025. The agreement represents a significant step in ArcelorMittal’s energy strategy in France. The contract formalizes a plan first outlined in a letter of intent signed in January 2024, with electricity deliveries commencing at the start of 2026.
Key Details of the Agreement
Under the terms of the 18-year agreement, the French utility company EDF will allocate a share of the production capacity from its operating nuclear fleet to ArcelorMittal. This arrangement is designed to provide ArcelorMittal’s French facilities with a secure, long-term, and competitive supply of low-carbon electricity, supporting the decarbonization of the country’s steel industry.

Reiner Blaschek, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, stated that the agreement will enable the company to supply its French sites over the long term with low-carbon electricity, calling it “a key factor for the future competitiveness of our steel produced in France.”
BĂ©atrice Bigois, Executive Director in charge of the Customers, Services and Territories Division at EDF Group, added that the contract illustrates EDF’s commitment to providing industrial players with low-carbon, competitive electricity. “By supporting ArcelorMittal, a key player in steel production, we are contributing to the decarbonization of industry and to energy sovereignty,” she said.
