Wiesbaden, Germany – The trend of online shopping in Germany has extended beyond fashion and media, increasingly encompassing daily necessities.
In 2023, about 23% of individuals aged 16 to 74 reported purchasing goods such as groceries, detergents, and cosmetics online in the past three months.
However, clothing and sports equipment remain the most common online purchases, with 51% of consumers buying these items via the internet, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Additionally, books, magazines, newspapers (21%), pharmaceuticals (18%), and home and garden items (16%) are frequently bought online.
This shift indicates a growing acceptance of e-commerce among older demographics for a wider range of products.
