Wiesbaden, Germany — The average age for first marriages in Germany has increased, with women getting married at an average age of 32.6 years and men at 35.1 years in 2022, destatis said Thursday.
The number of people getting married for the first time at age 50 or older has also risen from 7,500 in 2002 to around 41,500 in 2022.
Approximately half of the adult population in Germany was married by the end of 2022, with around two-thirds of those aged 65 to 69 being married. The average age difference between genders has slightly decreased from 3.0 years in 2002 to 2.5 years in 2022. Same-sex marriages have been included in the statistics since 2018.
