The extension marks the 15th anniversary of the initiative, which aims to address youth unemployment in 70 countries.
What is new?
The GoTeach program connects young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with DHL employees who serve as mentors. The initiative focuses on providing skills, confidence, and professional networks to prepare youth for the job market. “For 15 years, GoTeach has been a cornerstone of how we live our purpose of ‘Connecting people, improving lives’,” said Thomas Ogilvie, Chief Human Resources Officer at DHL Group. “Equipping the next generation with self-reliance for a rapidly changing job market is more critical than ever.”
Program Origins and Global Expansion
The GoTeach initiative began in 2010 with a pilot program in Madagascar to bridge the gap between skills and the job market. It has since expanded to a global program active in 70 countries, equipping thousands of young people with career readiness skills each year. In Madagascar alone, the program has grown from an initial 15 youths to over 7,000 participants across five regions. The company reports that 40 participants have gained permanent employment at DHL through the program, which now benefits more than 400 local youth annually.
Regional Initiatives
In the Americas, a “My First Job” initiative launched in 2023 offers one-year work placements that combine practical learning with professional experience. More than 25 participants from this initiative have transitioned into permanent roles at DHL. In Romania, the GoTeach program has collaborated with corporate customers, including Paragon, Bumbu Toys, Aumovio Systems, and Aerostar. These partnerships provide young people with practical insights into industries such as automotive technology, aerospace, and defense to broaden their career prospects.
