IHG Hotels & Resorts to Expand in Greater China with New Openings in H1 2026

SHANGHAI, China – IHG Hotels & Resorts announced on January 19 a series of new hotel openings planned for the first half of 2026 across Greater China.

The expansion is intended to strengthen the company’s market presence and address evolving travel demands in the region.

What is new?

IHG Hotels & Resorts will strengthen its portfolio in Greater China with multiple high-quality hotel openings in the first half of 2026. The move is a response to increasingly specific and multi-layered guest expectations, as well as diversifying travel patterns that range from short city stays to immersive travel experiences. The company currently has 13 brands and over 1,400 open and pipeline hotels across more than 200 cities in Greater China.

Expanding Footprint

The 2026 openings will extend IHG’s presence into new tier-one and tier-two cities, matching its brand portfolio to local market characteristics. In the first half of the year, TFT Chongqing Vignette Collection will open in the city’s core urban area, bolstering the company’s luxury offerings in Southwest China. Other scheduled openings include InterContinental Huzhou South Taihu, Atwell Hefei Downtown, Holiday Inn Resort Ningbo Ninghai, Holiday Inn Jinan Daming Lake, and Holiday Inn Express Nanjing Confucius Temple.

Catering to Diverse Travel Occasions

The upcoming hotels are designed to serve a wide range of travel motivations, from short breaks to longer stays. InterContinental Taipei, located near the Taipei Dome, and Holiday Inn Shanghai Tourism Zone, near Shanghai Disney Resort, are positioned to cater to leisure and family travel. For urban experiences, THE ONE Shanghai Downtown Vignette Collection is situated near core commercial districts. The Kimpton Shanghai 9 Tree Art Center will offer a stay option for guests interested in nature, arts, and culture in a suburban destination.

Integrating Local Character

IHG is focusing on integrating local culture into the design and guest experience of its new properties. The Palm Springs Hotel Chengdu Vignette Collection will draw inspiration from traditional Sichuan craftsmanship. Hotel Indigo Chongqing Chaotianmen will incorporate the city’s topography into its design, while voco Beijing Temple of Heaven will reflect Beijing’s historical and cultural context in its guestroom experience.
