WIESBADEN, Germany — Germany’s inflation rate is expected to reach 2.9% in August 2026, measured as the year-on-year change in the consumer price index (CPI), the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said in a preliminary release on Monday.
Consumer prices increased 0.2% from July 2026.
Energy Drives Inflation
Energy prices increased 10.5% from a year earlier. Destatis said energy-price inflation accelerated compared with July 2026 (8.3%) and June 2026 (3.4%).
Core inflation, excluding food and energy, is expected at 2.4% in August 2026.
Goods and Services
Prices for goods rose 3.0% from a year earlier, while services prices rose 2.8%.
Food prices increased 0.1% year on year.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), used for euro-area comparisons, also rose 2.9% from a year earlier and 0.2% from the previous month on a preliminary basis.
Destatis noted that the figures are preliminary and may be revised.
