WIESBADEN, Germany — German exports rose by 3.9 percent to 817.8 billion Euros in the first half of 2026, an increase of 31.0 billion Euros compared to the same period last year.
Imports into Germany totaled 712.1 billion Euros in the first six months of 2026, marking a 4.7 percent or 31.7 billion Euro increase from the first half of 2025, The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said in an emailed press release today.
Trade Balance and Key Partners
Germany’s foreign trade balance, representing exports minus imports, stood at a surplus of 105.7 billion Euros in the first half of 2026. This was 0.7 percent lower than the 106.4 billion Euro surplus recorded in the first half of 2025.
China continued to be Germany’s most important trading partner in the first half of 2026, with a total turnover (exports plus imports) of 125.5 billion Euros. This follows its position as the top partner for the full year 2025. The United States ranked second with 123.7 billion Euros in turnover, followed by the Netherlands with 109.3 billion Euros.
Exports to the United States decreased by 6.1 percent during the period. Imports from China increased by 8.8 percent. Destatis noted that the export surplus in trade with the United States significantly decreased, while the import surplus in trade with China strongly increased.
