• Lenzing AG and Energie AG Umwelt Service extend energy partnership to 2040
LENZING, Austria – Lenzing AG and Energie AG Umwelt Service announced on January 20, 2026, the extension of their partnership for the Reststoffverwertung Lenzing (RVL) energy facility through the end of 2040.
The revised framework agreement aims to secure long-term energy supply and advance decarbonization efforts at the Lenzing industrial site.
What is new?
Lenzing AG and Energie AG Umwelt Service have secured the long-term continuation of their cooperation in the Reststoffverwertung Lenzing (RVL) facility with a revised framework agreement. The partnership, now extended until the end of 2040, is intended to provide planning certainty for both companies and support climate protection and security of supply at the Lenzing industrial site.
Key Details of the Agreement
The agreement includes a retrofit program scheduled for 2026/27, which is designed to increase the availability and energy efficiency of the boiler plant. The revised framework also establishes clear rules for managing emission-related costs and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements. This includes adherence to the updated 2024 Waste Incineration Ordinance, which mandates stricter standards for emissions, monitoring, and the sustainable treatment of residual materials.
Strategic Importance
The RVL facility has been a central component of Lenzing AG’s energy hub for over 25 years. It is one of Austria’s largest industrial residual-material utilization facilities, processing approximately 900 tons of waste per day.
Annually, the plant converts more than 300,000 tons of waste into electricity and steam, replacing up to 85 million cubic meters of natural gas. The partnership also utilizes a climate-friendly logistics concept, with the possibility of delivering waste materials by rail. The agreement supports the Lenzing Group’s broader transformation strategy focused on decarbonization and efficiency.
