- ArcelorMittal Announces 1GW of New Renewable Energy Projects in India
- AMNS India is also developing its own 550MW renewable energy project in Bachau, Gujarat, consisting of 300MW of solar and 250MW of wind power.
NEW DELHI, India тАУ ArcelorMittal announced on December 22, 2025, three new renewable energy projects in India with a total capacity of 1GW.
The projects, representing a $0.9 billion investment, will supply solar and wind power to AMNS India, the company’s steelmaking joint venture.
What is new?
ArcelorMittal has announced three new renewable energy projects in India, which will add a combined 1GW of nominal solar and wind capacity. Upon completion, these projects are set to double the company’s renewable energy capacity in India to 2GW and increase its total global renewable capacity to 3.3GW. The total capital expenditure for the three projects is anticipated to be $0.9 billion.
Project Details
The new projects are located across three Indian states. A 36MW solar project in Amaravati, Maharashtra, is forecast to be completed in the first half of 2027. In Bikaner, Rajasthan, a 400MW solar project with 500MWh of battery energy storage is planned for completion in the first half of 2028. The third project, in Bachau, Gujarat, will integrate 250MW of wind and 300MW of solar power with 300MWh of battery storage, also expected to be finished in the first half of 2028.
AMNS India is also developing its own 550MW renewable energy project in Bachau, Gujarat, consisting of 300MW of solar and 250MW of wind power.
The power generated from these facilities will be supplied to AMNS India, ArcelorMittalтАЩs 60/40 Indian steelmaking joint venture with Nippon Steel. The projects are projected to deliver annual CO2 savings of 0.04 million tonnes, 0.65 million tonnes, and 0.9 million tonnes, respectively.
Strategic Impact
The expansion is aimed at providing a secure supply of clean energy for the company’s steelmaking operations in India. Once all of ArcelorMittal’s Indian renewable projects are operational, they are expected to provide 35% of the electricity requirements for AMNS IndiaтАЩs Hazira steel plant, based on forecast energy consumption following the plant’s ongoing expansion. The combined projects are projected to result in total annual CO2 savings of 4 million tonnes.
тАЬWith these new projects, we are doubling our renewable energy capacity in India, providing a secure supply of clean energy to our Indian steelmaking operations and strengthening our global footprint in clean power.тАЭ
In addition to the company’s projects, AMNS India is also developing its own 550MW renewable energy project in Bachau, Gujarat, consisting of 300MW of solar and 250MW of wind power.
