NEU-ULM, Germany – Family-owned transport company Omnibus Weidachstein GmbH & Co. KG has initiated its transition to an electric fleet with the acquisition of five new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city buses.

The company took delivery of the battery-electric vehicles from manufacturer Daimler Buses on Tuesday, December 16, at a handover ceremony at the Daimler plant in Neu-Ulm.

The five new buses represent the Bavarian company’s first investment in locally COâ‚‚-free e-mobility. They are set to replace five existing vehicles and will be deployed on scheduled public transport routes within the Neu-Ulm district. Dr. Sandra Bayerle-Schnarrenberger, owner of the 70-year-old company, stated the move to electric buses was essential for the future of public transport in the region and for safeguarding the company’s operations.

The purchase was supported by funding from the German federal government and the Free State of Bavaria.

The vehicles were formally handed over by Marijo Sapina, Head of Sales for Private Customers at Daimler Buses, to Dr. Bayerle-Schnarrenberger and her son, Kilian Benedikt Bayerle. The new buses are equipped with modern safety features, including active brake assist and turning assistants, and have a capacity for 90 passengers.

To ensure the fleet’s availability, Omnibus Weidachstein has also signed a comprehensive maintenance and repair contract with Daimler’s Omniplus service.
