• BP Announces Leadership Transition, Appoints Meg O’Neill as Next CEO
LONDON, UK – BP p.l.c. announced Wednesday it has appointed Meg O’Neill as its next chief executive officer, effective 1 April 2026. Current CEO Murray Auchincloss will step down on 18 December, with Carol Howle set to serve as interim CEO.

The bp Board has appointed Meg O’Neill, currently the CEO of Woodside Energy, as the company’s next chief executive. Her appointment will be effective 1 April 2026.
Murray Auchincloss has decided to step down as CEO and as a director of the Board, effective Thursday, 18 December.
He will continue in an advisory role until December 2026 to ensure a smooth transition. Carol Howle, bp’s current executive vice president for supply, trading & shipping, will serve as interim CEO until O’Neill assumes the role. O’Neill has served as CEO of Woodside Energy since 2021, where she oversaw the acquisition of BHP Petroleum International. She previously worked for 23 years at ExxonMobil in various technical, operational, and leadership positions.
