- ABB Finalizes Acquisition of Gamesa Electric to Bolster Renewables Division
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Global technology company ABB announced Tuesday it has completed its acquisition of the power electronics business from Gamesa Electric, a subsidiary of Siemens Gamesa.
The move is intended to strengthen ABB’s position in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
The deal, first announced on December 18, 2024, was finalized on December 2, 2025. While financial terms were not disclosed, the acquired business reported annual revenues of approximately €145 million for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025.
The acquisition transfers around 400 employees and two factories in Madrid and Valencia, Spain, to ABB. The portfolio includes key renewable power conversion products such as solar inverters, battery energy storage systems, and wind converters. This increases the total capacity of ABB’s serviceable installed base of wind converters by approximately 46 gigawatts. ABB has also entered into a supply and services agreement with Siemens Gamesa as part of the transaction.
This strategic purchase positions ABB to capitalize on significant growth in the renewable energy market. According to the International Energy Agency, electricity from renewable sources is projected to increase by 60% by 2030, with solar and wind power driving much of the expansion.
