- German Manufacturing Orders Rise in October While Service Sector Sees Slight Dip
WIESBADEN, Germany – The German economy showed mixed signals, according to data released Friday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). New orders in the manufacturing sector rose in October 2025, while turnover in the service sector saw a slight real-terms decline in September 2025.
In October, real (price-adjusted) new orders in manufacturing increased by a seasonally and calendar-adjusted 1.5% compared to the previous month. This growth follows an upwardly revised 2.0% increase in September.
Destatis noted that without large orders, the October increase was a more modest 0.5%. However, compared to October 2024, new orders were down by 0.7%.
Conversely, the German service sector reported a real (price-adjusted) turnover decrease of 0.2% in September compared to August 2025. Nominally (not price-adjusted), turnover rose by 0.2% over the same period.
In a year-on-year comparison, the sector showed growth, with turnover in September 2025 up by 1.6% in real terms and 3.2% in nominal terms versus September 2024. The data excludes financial and insurance services.
