GLASGOW, U.K. – The Buchanan Galleries shopping centre is set for a major redevelopment after property company Landsec received planning permission from Glasgow City Council for a project valued at approximately £85 million.

The approved plans will transform the city centre retail hub with a targeted refurbishment. The project includes the creation of new flagship retail units along Buchanan Street, the modernization of the existing mall, and the introduction of new leisure and dining options, including a destination food hall.

The goal is to enhance the guest experience and attract leading international brands, strengthening Glasgow’s position as a top UK shopping destination.

As part of the overhaul, Landsec will install large-format digital advertising screens on the building’s exterior. The company intends for these screens to provide a new platform for brands while also featuring curated content from creative partners, creating a new visitor attraction.

The refurbishment will be carried out in phases, allowing the shopping centre to remain open for business throughout the construction period.

Landsec announced the investment is a response to strong brand demand for prime space in the city and is part of a wider plan to invest c. £200 million across its major retail destinations.
