• Delta Air Lines Orders 31 Widebody Aircraft from Airbus
TOULOUSE, France – Delta Air Lines placed a firm order for 31 Airbus widebody jets on January 28, 2026, including 16 A330-900s and 15 A350-900s, to expand its international fleet.
What is new?
Airbus has secured a firm order from Delta Air Lines for 31 latest-generation widebody aircraft. The U.S. carrier’s purchase consists of 16 A330-900s and 15 A350-900s. The agreement was announced to support the expansion of the airline’s long-haul network.
Order Details
Once the new aircraft are delivered, Delta’s widebody fleet will include 55 A330neo and 79 A350 aircraft. The airline currently operates a fleet of more than 500 Airbus aircraft, spanning all of the manufacturer’s product families from the A220 to the A350-900. According to Airbus, Delta Air Lines’ current backlog is approximately 200 aircraft, which also includes orders for the A350-1000 model.
Strategic Rationale
Delta’s Chief Executive Officer, Ed Bastian, stated the order is intended to support the airline’s growth. “As we grow our international footprint and prepare our fleet to serve expanded long-haul markets, these aircraft will enhance our capabilities and elevate our premium offerings,” Bastian said. He added that the widebody aircraft are expected to deliver “additional operational efficiencies and long-term cost benefits.” Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales for Commercial Aircraft, described the deal as a testament to the “enduring partnership” between the two companies.
